Little Pond

I walked up to sit near the little pond.
The trees are mostly bare.

The ducks were gone.
The water so still I could see my reflection.

I went looking for leaves.

A vine low to the ground still showed some color.
It warmed to 54 degrees.
I had hoped to see a butterfly.
Today was a quiet walk, no birds, no neighbors, no bugs.

It was just me, the trees and the sky.
I thought of you.
Thank you for walking with me.

Down the street

The leaves were gathered in the street
when I walked this morning.
They danced around my legs as I walked through the piles.
They crunched!

Many of my neighbors have begun
decorating their houses for Christmas.
I like the pretty balls in one evergreen.
I shall walk tonight and see the lights.
I too have begun getting the house dressed for December merry making.
I am doing a stress free December.
I am enjoying the decorating.
I have plenty of time.
I still can walk everyday.
I still can have my bird time.

Morning Snow Fall

I perched up.

The snow fall was so pretty.

The female Hairy Woodpecker
perched up too.

I will walk later.
This morning I am sitting in beauty.

It was 16 degrees outside
when I went to feed the birds.

Frost covered the deck.

A few trees are hanging on to their leaves.

I bundled up and took my coffee to the deck.

White Breasted Nuthatch came for breakfast.
As did about a hundred other birds.

Thank you, thank you...

I went back to the little pond
at Cave Springs.
I took the telephoto lens.
I wanted to get some close up photos
of the Mallard Ducks.

I have never been impressed with this little pond.
It has always seemed very polluted.

Yesterday when I saw the Mallard Ducks
I fell in love with this little pond.

As I watched the ducks this morning I remembered Dr.Emoto.
I thought of how he cleanses water with two parts gratitude and one part love.
I began sending my gratitude to this little pond.
I began sending my love.
I can do this. I shall adopt this little pond.

Southern breezes

A strong southern breeze
carried me into the woods.
I walked while the leaves danced overhead.

A flock of Dark-eyed Juncos
kept me company.

Seeing Mallard Ducks on the pond was a delight.

I sat for awhile at the pond.
I felt the breeze on my arms and
the sun on my face.
It is 72 degrees outside,
unseasonably warm.

I am enjoying my walks each day.

I am enjoying who I am.
I am enjoying where I am.

I tried to follow in your footsteps.
You were too fast.
Your wit too quick.
You were a shooting star.

I am remembering your birthday today.
I am remembering our Father's death today.
It did not feel like a present to you.

Today I join you at the ridge.
We can walk together.
I miss you.

A tree calls to me

I was bundled up,
wrapped against the cold, north wind.
The sun so bright I was sure I would be warm
as I walked this morning in the cemetery.
My eyes began to water,
the air was too cold.
I considered turning around and going back home.
I could walk later in the day when the temperatures warmed up.
A tree on the other side of the cemetery caught my eye.
I walked towards it.
I forgot to be cold.

I walked for 45 minutes.
I too was dressed in red.

Around the block

The brisk, north wind
kept me close to home.

Lawns are filling with leaves.

With each gust of wind leaves fill the air.
They twirl in the street and around my legs.

Soon all the leaves will be off the trees.

Cold air is blowing in.

Indian Summer is coming to a close.

The call

I was not sure where
I would walk this morning.

I looked down the street and saw the trees.
The leaves were falling gently.

I heard Mockingbird.

These Indian Summer days are divine.

A neighbor was outside sitting on her porch.
We said, "Hello."
Too beautiful to be inside.

I will walk in the woods this afternoon.

The trees are calling.

Calm before the rain

I walked before the rains.
I do hope they come.
Mockingbird came with me.

Today I walked in my neighborhood.
I wanted to stay close to home.
I wanted to look at the trees before the rain.

It was so quiet I could hear my footsteps.
I could hear leaves falling to the ground.
I heard the geese long before I saw them.

It is warm.
I walked in short sleeves.
It is Indian Summer.

In the cemetery

It was almost eleven am.
before I opened the cemetery gate.

I had lingered in my backyard
with the birds this morning.

It is sunny and the air feels warm.

An Orange Sulphur flew past me.

The grass is browning in the cemetery.
The leaves continue to amaze me.

I walked for an hour.
When November is warm and sunny I can walk for hours.

I waited to walk until

The trees are bright.
The air is warm.

The birds came with me.

The neighborhood is beautiful.

I want to be outside
every minute of daylight.
The birds and the colors fill my soul with joy.

Into the woods.

I left the paved path.
I walked into the woods.

I looked at the understory of the woods.

At the pond I rested.

I do not know how long I gazed
at the reflections.
A Blue Jay's call
brought me back to this day.
