Day 70

The drought in Kansas City continues.

Even the pokeberries are wilted.

The zucchini are struggling.

The lawn is gone.
Today's 103 degrees with 17% humidity tells the story
of summer 2012; hot and dry.

I am surprised by what is blooming.
Pleased the milkweed is still growing.

It will be food for the Monarch caterpillars come September.

The drought and the heat are taking their toll on my spirit.
I feed the birds and make sure all the water bowls are full.

When I was a little girl I was in a church choir.
We sang the Prayer of Saint Francis of Assisi.
It always gave me comfort.
While I watered this morning I found myself singing.

Oh my dear--I sympathise with the plants, the birds and you--One takes whatever comfort one can--do pick some of the ripe poke berry for dyeing cloth...it makes a wonderful color--I'm retreating from the city, escaping tomorrow to the woods of Massachusetts for two weeks.

My heart hurts for you, Sherry. I would love to be able to send you some of our humidity. I would draw rain clouds over the mid-West and give long slow soaking rains to you. My soul knows that shriveling up state that your soul is enmeshed in right now. I know that your zen heart still beats with love, even in drought...

Rain, rain, rain!! We could use some, too. Right now it is 111 degrees. Argh.

NO COMPLAINS HERE,
SO SAD WHAT ELSE IS THERE
GOD'S WILL EVEN THOUGH HARD YET WE JUST HAVE TO EXCEPT IT.

TECHNOLOGY COULD HELP, THINK IRRIGATION, IT IS POSSIBLE,,..... LITTLE BUT LITTLE IT IS POSSIBLE.

O God, Heavenly Father, who by thy son Jesus hast promised to all those who seek thy kingdom and it righteousness all things necessary to sustain their life: Send your servants, we entreat thee, in this time of need, such moderate rain and showers, that we may receive the fruits of the earth, to our comfort and to thy honor, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen
