Moonset at sunrise

With the moon on my back

and the sun on my face

I once again watched the dew
rise.

I live in a magical world.

I live in an artfilled world.

Sunbeams

I walked in the glow
and watched the dew rise.

There is glitter in the cool Autumn morning.

Harvest Moon Morning

I was greeted by the Blue Birds
when I entered the cemetery.

The dew shimmered
and rose into the morning
sunlight.

The long shadows of Harvest Moon morning
told me, "This is a glorious day.

Bask in the sun.
Delight in each moment.
Dance under the Harvest Moon."

Walking in the rain

I woke to the sound of thunder.
A gentle Autumn rain was falling.

So I went walking in the rain.

The walnuts had fallen.

Walking Backwards

My neighborhood was once a farm.
The farmhouse still stands.

Before the farm, prairie schooners in wagon trains created deep ruts as they headed west. I live near the Santa Fe Trail.
Remnants of these times gone by decorate porches and driveways.
I am interested in learning about this land before the people came.
I am interested in learning the Natural History of my corner of the world.

Arboretum

We walked for two hours
in a three hundred acre
Arboretum.
In with the trees are many gardens.
The Red Spotted Purple
was nectaring in a Butterfly Bush.
The Great Spangled Fritillary
was in the wild thistle.

Monarchs, Painted Ladies, Skippers of all varities, Sulphurs, Buckeys and Swallowtails floated in the air. Many children and their parents were also looking at the buttterflies. Butterfly awareness, butterfly love.
We enjoyed our walk with the butterflies.
I want to grow thistle in my wild gardens.

Into the woods

The woods were quiet.

I thought of all the different
traditions,
the different ways,
of knowing Spirit.

Many are beginning a fast at sunset.
Many are celebrating Yom Kippur, Day of Atonement.

It is not my tradition.
It is not my way.
I know Spirit differently.

I honor different ways.
I respect them.

I learn from them.

Day of Atonement.
May I be forgiven.

Walking with Monarchs

I looked up and saw the Monarchs.
I followed them into the cemetery.
In through the gate
and down the cemetery road I walked.
I stopped at the Catalpa Tree.
The geese were also walking.
I followed the Monarchs.
Every now and again one would land in front of me.
Waiting for me to catch up.

I kept walking.
I stayed with the Monarchs
until once again they took to the sky.
Bon voyage, pleasant journey.

Around the block

My walking shoes were in the entry.
I had left them there last night
after my evening walk.
I put them on.

I went for a walk in my neighborhood.
I looked for signs that Autumn was near.
My neighbor's Magnolia is setting seed pods.

The Sumac's seeds are ripe.
The birds will enjoy them this winter.

Hedge apples fell in yesterday's wind.
I need a few for the basement to keep out the crickets.
A neighbor came out to visit.

When I came to my driveway a Tiger Swallowtail greeted me.

I am back walking in the mornings.
I am back in my neighborhood.
I am connected to these people.
I am connected to these sacred grounds.
Walk with me.
We will bring in Autumn.
