In the cemetery

A northern wind in a cloudy sky

sent chills into my bones.

The veil is thin today.

I climbed the hills
encouraged by a tree.
Happy Halloween.

Chorus of color

Mockingbird was with me
this morning.

I walked in my neighborhood.

The trees are at peak color.

Standing under them
is standing in nature's cathedral.
Listening to them is hearing the song of October.

The leaves are beginning to fall.
October is leaving in a blaze of color.

In Living Color

A quick walk in the early morning light.
A walk around my yard.
I am waiting for my younger brother.
We are going to have breakfast together.
We are going to our childhood neighborhood.
I am taking the camera.
I want to see the trees of my youth in their Autumn color.

In the woods

The wind was blowing
out of the north this morning.

A few leaves were falling.

Before long the path will be covered.

A Cardinal was in the woods.
He watched me watch him.

The Goldenrod has set seed.
I gathered some.
Soon my pockets will be full of Autumn's seed.

Enthusiasm

I awoke without zeal.
I need enthusiasm.

The Oak leaves are turning.
They are beautiful.

Yet I wanted more from Autumn.

I decided I would walk
until I felt the excitement of the season.
I would walk until I saw beyond the color.

The heat rising in the cool air
from the compost was
exciting.

The Robin sunning
in the top of a bare tree was exciting.

I walked for two hours.

Mother Nature never fails me.
I have enthusiasm for this day.

Watercolor

It was cold and rainy this morning.
I waited to walk.

The rain slowed to a drizzle.
I dressed warmly and went walking.

I stepped into an artist canvas.
The watercolor still moist.

Crisp Morning Air

It was forty degrees out with
a north western breeze.
I started walking with a hat and jacket on.
The sun and my quick pace
warmed me.

I soon removed my hat so I
could feel the breeze.
My jacket I tied around my waist.

We have not had frost.
The roses in my neighbor's yard are blooming.
The trees continue to show their colors.
Today I studied the play of green, blue and rust.
I am wearing rust today.
I fit in.
Like the trees my colors are changing.

Not even footprints.

Recent rains have filled the ponds
and the streams.
I went to listen to them this morning.
The forest floor is covered in
toadstools and mushrooms.
I stayed on the paved path.
I did not want to step on any.
I stood and listened.
I love the woods.

I do not even leave my shadow.
I only take away my memories.

Rainy Day Walk

It was raining when I awoke.
I stood at the back door wondering
if I would be able to go walking.

The rain let up and stopped.

I grabbed my hat and jacket.

I walked quickly.
Thunder let me know a downpour was coming.
I made it home just in time.
I made a pot of hot tea.
I am glad I ventured forth.

Hope

Today I gathered hope.

I will save it.

I will treasure it.

I may need some extra hope in the future.

If I forget where I put hope
will you please remind me?
It is in the clouds and the leaves.

Motivation

I wasn't going to walk today.
I was not in the mood.
I read your comments.
I put on my shoes.
You encouraged me.

Mockingbird was waiting
in the Fire bush by the driveway.

He had all sorts of chatter.
He flew from tree to tree as I walked down the street.
I was not alone.

You walked with me.
Thank you.

Standing in beauty

I did not walk this morning.
I made a pot of tea and went to the deck.
It was cloudy and cool.
I wrapped up in a blanket.
I did some writing.

I did not see a Monarch yesterday.
I already miss them.
The temperature rose a bit and the sun tried to peek out.
The light was so lovely and the air refreshing.
I walked to the east side of my house.
Here a bed of zinnias and pokeweed grow.
I did not see any Monarchs or Skippers.
The flowers looked lonely.
I stood and waited.
In flew a Monarch and a few Skippers.
I was happy to see them.
I stood and watched as they feed.
In flew Mockingbird.
He was after the pokeweed berries.
Monarch to the right of me.
Mockingbird to the left.

I will walk later.
Today I was a standing stone, with a camera.

Looking for pumpkins

I walked at noon.
I wanted to see if any of my neighbors
had pumpkins on their porches.

Many did have simple arrangements.

Some had yard art.

A simple pumpkin on a table
was charming.

One of my neighbors was tending her rose garden
when I came by her house.
She cut a rose for me.
I wished her a Happy New Moon.
She did not know the moon was new.

Walking with the wildflowers

I walked in the woods this morning.
I wanted to see the wildflowers.

A dragonfly was patrolling.

It was shady under the canopy of the trees.
The leaves are just beginning to turn.
The Chicory is still in bloom.

The goldenrod is setting seed.
I will return next week to gather a few
for my wildflower garden.
I think the butterflies would like it.

The Long Road

I took the long way around the cemetery.
The dew so heavy on the grass
I could see my footprints.
Often I stopped to watch the dew rise.
I listened to the birds.
I watched them fly from tree top to tree top.
A Blue Bird flew down onto the pavement urging me on.
He stayed just out of camera's range.
I walked faster hoping to get closer.

As I climbed the last hill Mr. Blue Bird flew to the top of the tree near my gate.
I stopped and rested for a minute too.
The sun had risen high into the sky.
I felt warm in my sweater.
I was thirsty.

I had walked for an hour.
