Around the block

My walking shoes were in the entry.
I had left them there last night
after my evening walk.
I put them on.

I went for a walk in my neighborhood.
I looked for signs that Autumn was near.
My neighbor's Magnolia is setting seed pods.

The Sumac's seeds are ripe.
The birds will enjoy them this winter.

Hedge apples fell in yesterday's wind.
I need a few for the basement to keep out the crickets.
A neighbor came out to visit.

When I came to my driveway a Tiger Swallowtail greeted me.

I am back walking in the mornings.
I am back in my neighborhood.
I am connected to these people.
I am connected to these sacred grounds.
Walk with me.
We will bring in Autumn.

Hedge apples? I've never heard that name before. That looks like an osage orange to me. And you say they keep crickets out of your basement? My cats take care of that, but does it work? really?

Dear Susie,
"Hedge apples" are what we have always called the "fruit" of the Osage Orange tree. Perhaps because Osage Orange trees were planted as
hedging around the Mississippi River.I have used them for years to keep crickets out of the basement. They do a pretty good job. The Hedge apples will rot if not picked green.
They say "Autumn" to me.

Dearest Sherry,

What a Lovely day, of 'Walking in Beauty.'

The Sumac seeds are that beautiful red flower? Oh my goodness, things I never knew.

Hedge apples speak to me of Autumn for sure. I never knew about the Hedge Apples keeping crickets out of the basement. I've always heard that a cricket in the house is good luck. And I have to say ~ I've always thought that it was not good luck for the cricket, so I try to find and carry them outside. Of course I call them all Jiminy. hehe.

I am happy to be walking once again with you every morning along the sacred pathways to peace understanding.

Many Blessings, and much love as we approach the Autumnal Equinox, and the turning of the seasonal wheel~

Dear Marie,
Thank you! I noticed you have butterflies posted today. On my other blog, Q's Corner, I have lots of butterflies posted. The days of butterflies are rapidly coming to a close. I will miss them.

Dearest Sprite,
It felt good to be out again with the camrea looking around the neighborhood. The birds will eat the Sumac seeds this winter too. When you are driving about you will see the Sumac is starting to turn. It is lovely.
I like crickets outside! They do come in and I do have the cricket songs to keep me cheerful! Hedge apples only help somewhat with cricket control! The crickets do eat paper and cloth so I try and keep them out. We do catch and release too.
It is a joy to share my morning walk with you. It IS a walk in peace and of understanding. A walk with friends. I also think of you as I go about and send blessings.
We will turn the wheel together. We will celebrate the Autumn Equinox.
Nameste,
Sherry

Nice walk! Do you walk briskly or do you wander, stopping and starting, while you are looking? I try to walk very briskly.

Dear Naturegirl,
I do not know if the Osage Orange tree grows in Canada or not. Hummm.
"Hedge apples" could be a colloquialism. I have never know the fruit of the Osage Orange tree to be called anything else. very interesting. I shall do a "google search" and see what I can learn.
Walking and taking photos is very fun.
Thank you for joining me.

Dear Mary,
I walk fast and slow and I stop whenever I want to. I have no rules on my morning walk. I just enjoy the morning. In the evenings my husband and I walk rather quickly. We do have conversation. He is the talker I am busy breathing.
