My tree book says it is a Tulip Tree
also known as a Whitewood Tree.
It is native to eastern North America.
There were many bees!
While I was photographing the tree my neighbor came out.
I asked him if he knew what type of tree it was and he did not.
At home I opened my tree guide.
I was able to identify the leaf and than the flower.
It is fun to be able to id another tree.
I am learning,
slowly but surely.

There were several of these trees in my backyard when I was growing up. I knew them as tulip poplars. Whenever I see one it takes me back to days spent in the woods behind my house when I was little.
Dear Icqb,
This is a beautiful tree. I had never noticed the blooms before.
I have lived in this neighborhood for 31 years, it is fun to know there are still many, many things for me to learn.
A Tulip Poplar? Now I feel as if I could id this tree any place. The leaf is very distinctive.
Thank you for giving me another piece of this tree's story.
They are beautiful trees.
I am looking forward to reading your journal and getting to know you.
Namaste,
Sherry
