Sunday Stroll

We went walking on the golf cart paths.
We were looking for Red-headed Woodpeckers.

We found blue skies, Yellow Shafted Flickers

and Red-bellied Woodpeckers.

A pair of Bald Eagles flew over the car.

They are nesting less than two miles from my backyard.
I shall be keeping an eye on this pair.
It is exciting to have them here in the city.

woodpeckers are my favored bird. Once a yellow-bellied sapsucker came into my view when I most wanted to be angry at the world. What a gift!

thanks for your amazingly kind comment at Pathwayhort!

Dear Marmee,
When ever I am out walking and birds are about I am pleased!
I will be going back to check on the Eagles. I would love to do a photo essay of just Eagles.

Dear Wayne,
It would be very hard to be mad when a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker was about!
I am studying Woodpeckers in 2009. I post about the birds and the bugs in my backyard on my other blog, Q's Corner. Walking in Beauty is my walking journal. Thank you for walking with!
I also garden....organic, native, herbs some veggies and lots of plants for the birds and butterflies and bees. I post about the gardens on Q's Corner too.
It is always nice to meet other plant people. I am looking at the seed catologs too.
I like Seed Saver's Exchange. They are a fine, organic organization that sell seed. I have visited their farm.
I will do a post after the new year about them. A place you and your students might be interested in. Do you go on field trips?
Namaste,
Sherry

Dear Mary,
I need to walk every day. On the weekends it gets difficult. If my husband and I go together it is fun!
Having birds about is extra fun!

You're lucky to have eagles so close by, Sherry. I just noticed something peculiar about the pics: all of the birds are pointing in the same direction. Wonder if the time of day had anything to do with it. More likely, it was the direction of the wind but interesting anyway.

I just love your blog, you have wonderful photography here. I live surrounded by woods, and adore nature, too!

We are lucky too and have a pair of eagles nesting in sight of the property. I see them fly by almost daily. I think they were gone for a while visiting some salmon streams.

Keep on enjoying your walk through beauty.

Dear Walk2write,
Oh my goodness...all the birds ARE facing the same direction. I am interested in this...bet it was the wind.
Something to be aware of too when I am out in the wild.

Dear Natural Moments,
Having the eagles about is fantastic. We went looking for our eagles last weekend but did not see them. I do not think there are any salmon streams nearby....Wish there were!
You are surrounded by fantastic Nature in Washington State.

Dear Jan,
He flew right over the car. Pretty close actually. My husband had stepped out of car when we first saw the eagles in the trees.
I was wowed!!!
