Down the street

It was mid afternoon before I went walking.
Halloween decorations have begun to appear.
I am looking for Jack-o-lanters.
Not yet!

Tonight we are to have a hard freeze.
My neighbor's roses will be nipped.
These gardens have been abandoned.
My neighbors died a few years ago.
I keep watch.

The afternoon light is bright.

The Pine Siskins have returned
and the Yellow Rumped Warblers.

It is Halloween week.

sherry, the peak leaves look so beautiful, i can just imagine walking up the canopies with you and looking up into all that colour.
we don't really have too many close neighbors but some have pumpkins out as i go on my drives down the lane.

Dear Marmee,
I did not walk today. Instead I talked on the phone with a friend and my daughter was home sick so we chatted. Many afternoons I am finished with my chores and I feel free to walk the neighborhood. So often neighbors will come out to talk. Sometimes a walk down the street can take an hour!
I have enjoyed seeing harvest decorations as I walk about. I think I enjoy the scarecrows and pumpkins more than Christmas decor.
